Relationship & Couples Counselling
Healthy and fulfilling relationships are the basis for a happy life. While relationships can foster satisfaction and happiness, they can also produce anger, frustration, hurt and disappointment. Difficulties can occur at any stage and may result from poor communication, financial pressures, sexual intimacy, or major life transitions - a career change, becoming a parent, conflict within extended family, or the loss of a loved one.
By nature, humans are social beings with a need to maintain connections. Our most important relationships are the ones we share with our partners and family.

Attending therapy as a couple or family, you'll be guided to explore beliefs, values and expectations that may underlie your difficulties. Sessions focus on improving communication, reducing conflict and enhancing connection between partners or family members. Change happens through the new understanding generated in therapy and by experimenting with different ways of relating at home.
Couples and family therapy can help with

Principles of effective couples therapy
- 01
Changing views of the relationship
Couples are guided to look at their relationship more objectively - moving beyond the 'blame game' and considering conflict as a process involving both partners.
- 02
Changing unhelpful behaviour
Therapy focuses on changing the ways partners behave towards one another, minimising harmful actions and preventing the escalation of arguments.
- 03
Reducing emotional avoidance
Partners are supported to share their emotional experiences in ways that draw them closer together rather than becoming distant.
- 04
Enhancing communication
Couples develop an understanding of different communication styles, replacing criticism and defensiveness with healthier alternatives.
- 05
Building on strengths
Therapy also identifies where the relationship thrives, so partners can derive more enjoyment and satisfaction from being together.
