Psychological Assessments

Psychological assessments are used to better understand what is happening for a person and are often requested by doctors and other treating clinicians. One of the most common reasons for conducting an assessment is to clarify or diagnose a mental health or neurodevelopmental condition.

When performing an assessment, Psychologists use a combination of interviews, observations and psychometric testing. The information is summarised into a report that provides a comprehensive picture of the person and includes recommendations to help them overcome difficulties and improve their functioning.

Assessments involve an initial interview to clarify the reason for the assessment and gather background information. Formal testing follows and can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours depending on the nature of the assessment. Once completed, the Psychologist interprets the results, prepares a written report, and conducts a feedback session to go over the findings and answer questions.
